Guilford Fund for Education Grant Expands Cultural Enrichment at CNS

April 24, 2024 Stephanie Swinkin

CNS is happy to announce that we have recently received a grant from the Guilford Fund for Education!

The Guilford Fund for Education (GFFE) was created nearly a decade ago to provide educators with funds for creative and innovative learning experiences.

Previous funding from the GFFE allowed CNS to launch its Cultural Enrichment class, which currently meets twice a week and allows students to study a variety of cultural traditions and celebrations. This is currently one of our most popular enrichment classes, and our students and families have been enthusiastic about celebrating various holidays they may not otherwise have encountered.

Students celebrate Holi, a significant Hindu Spring festival.

We are very excited that this program, grown through GFFE funding, will continue to expand thanks to this latest grant. We now have the opportunity to extend the themes of our Cultural Enrichment class across all of our programming through a new Cultural Celebrations curriculum. All of our students will develop their global citizenship in the classroom, learning about six different cultural celebrations through books, songs, activities, and foods.

Additionally, this curriculum will include an at-home component. Classroom learning can be shared at home through Cultural Celebrations bags. These will be filled with authentic celebration materials, books read in class, and related activities. We are so excited to develop and strengthen our community bonds through these shared learning experiences!

We are thrilled to offer our students learning opportunities through celebration thanks to continued funding through GFFE. We can’t wait to see this curriculum in action!
